Forgive, But Don't Forget.

What does your life mean to you? To many, their life would mean the world to them, but for most their life would mean not that much to them. To me, my life means alot to me, which means I wouldn't dare try to drive under the influence.DUI offenders may think upon the subject a little different. Being an offender would mean someone who does it more than once. If someone gets a DUI more than once, they simply have no respect for others.
In the state of South Carolina, getting a DUI for the first time will result in a six month suspension on their licence, and up to 30 days in jail. A permanent criminal record and the title of a DUI offender listed on your record will also occur. On thursday, Jan. 03 2013, A columbia police officer was charged with DUI after being tested several times. The officer was suspended without pay, and soon to be fired. The officer was booked in jail and his license is suspended. If you have law officials who break the law, then you know you have regular ordinary citizens breaking it each and everyday. With that being said, the question is, Do you think DUI offenders should receive their license after the six month suspension period?
Losing your drivers licence can carry an emotional toll on someone. If someone is charged with a DUI for the first time, and they sober up and never do it again, they should get their license back. The reason for them driving under the influence could be very vague. They may be going through some tough times, and need a night out.  If you become a repeat offender you should not receive your documents back. Many people may say that it was a mistake, and who are we to say that it wasn't. Considering the fact that not only your life is in your, everyone elses is too, you should sober up real quick and think not twice but three times before you drive under the influence. If you do it once, you should be forgiven, but twice, its a rap.

Narrative poem

                                                          Could it Have Been?
It’s all fun and games, then Boom. Bang. Crash. Slam.
You wake up dizzy and nauseous with this sick feeling of hatred, but whom to hate?
You? Me? Sirens sound as the police pulls up.
The grass jumped as the antifreeze leaped from the car to the ground.
The permanent thoughts run into your mind.
The crucial, nasty, means slurs come in from ongoing traffic.
You think to yourself, why me, why this, could it be?
You start staggering and falling in the street.
You think to yourself, how many beers, how many shots, a blunt or two?
All your thoughts are obsolete. How could you be oblivious to others on the road?
You look at the car and see how hideous it is.
It looks as if someone bombarded it from behind and then engaged it into a fight.
The police run up to get your license and you wonder why?
Why the nasty, hideous, bleeding attitude?
As your walking away, you notice another vehicle that was involved, embedded into a tree.
You approach the vehicle, and the driver was out cold.
You soon start backing away; only to find yourself bumping into a police officer, then click.
There goes your freedom. No more driving, no more getting jobs and hopefully no more drinking.
A few weeks later, you’re released from jail, and you seem pale to the world.

As you enter society, you notice the looks, the constant staring, the nonstop talking. Could it be if I had not drank?

I am writing to address the awareness of how dangerous DUIs are. When you are driving while intoxicated, it not only dangers your life, but others lives as well.  Getting a DUI for the first time can result in a 6 month suspension and a permanent criminal record. DUIs are something that law enforcement agencies don’t take lightly. If you were to get a permanent criminal record because of an DUI, you will probably have a hard time getting a job. While you’re intoxicated, your mind is not in control of your body. You will tend to do things that you have no idea what you are doing. Driving under the influence is not a very smart decision.
